Heisman watch
The odds are in favor of a quarterback winning the Heisman Trophy. One almost always does (the last two non-QB winners were Alabama running backs Derrick Henry and Mark Ingram).
So that’s good news for Jarrett Stidham.
The Auburn quarterback threw for 3,158 yards last season with 18 touchdown passes and six interceptions. He’s the second Auburn quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season and the first to return after doing it.
Three Auburn football players have won the Heisman and, of course, two were quarterbacks in Cam Newton in 2010 and Pat Sullivan.
You can find Heisman watch lists everywhere. We’ll touch on a few.
- Our friends at OddShark look at the possibility of a running back winning it. The odds here list Stidham as having the eighth-best chance to win it.
- NFL.com also lists Stidham as No. 8 on its list of 18 Heisman hopefuls entering the season.
- Larry Brown Sports places Stidham seventh.
You can look around and find more predictions, but those sum up the general thinking of Stidham. The one thing we do know about Stidham: He’ll get the opportunities to make a run at Auburn’s fourth Heisman with the schedule Auburn faces.
