Outland Trophy

The Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation’s best interior lineman, whether he’s on the offensive or defensive line. In its 73rd year, the Outland Trophy is the third-oldest major college football award.

The list eventually will be down to a 26-member first team and three finalists will emerge from that group before the voting on the winner is completed.

Eleven players from the SEC were named to the preseason watch list. Auburn’s Derrick Brown made the cut. The preseason list is not in stone and players can be added it to it throughout the season.

Brown was one of 20 defensive tackles on the list of 82 players.

At 6-5, 325, Brown is a fantastic athlete for his size. He’s disruptive at the point of attack and can get to the quarterback. He piled up 57 tackles last season, including 9.5 tackles for loss and four sacks while also forcing a pair of fumbles.

Two Auburn football players have won the Outland: Tracy Rocker won it in 1988 and Zeke Smith won in 1958.
