Butkus Award

The Butkus Award has been handed out to the nation’s top linebacker since 1985.

Auburn senior Deshaun Davis is on the 51-member watch list to begin the 2018 season.

Davis will be starting for the third consecutive season at middle linebacker for Auburn. He has 150 career tackles and is the heart and soul of Kevin Steele’s defense.

Davis led the Tigers last season with 82 total tackles. He added seven tackles for loss and also recorded four sacks. He tied for the team-high with two fumble recoveries. In the win against Alabama, Davis had seven tackles and a sack.

No Auburn football player has won the Butkus Award.

The last two winners came from the SEC. Last year, Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith won and in 2016, Alabama LB Reuben Foster won the award.
