Auburn in the NFL: Cam Newton looking good, Kerryon Johnson battling for No. 1

RB Kerryon Johnson, Detroit
It looks like Kerryon Johnson is doing familiar things early in Detroit Lions training camp.
On Monday, he had the run of the day, according to the Free Press:
"Kerryon Johnson had the run of the day Monday. On the final play of a red-zone period, Johnson took off running to his left and reversed all the way across the field for a touchdown. The run came against a group of backup defenders, but it was still enough to impress (offensive lineman T.J.) Lang."
That’s nothing new to Auburn football fans, who have seen Johnson reverse course before and find the end zone.
And yes, Lang was impressed with the rookie from Auburn.
“He’s definitely a guy who’s going to add a different dynamic to our offense,” Lang said.
Johnson is competing with Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick and LeGarrette Blount for not just the starting job, but for carries in a crowded backfield. Johnson’s 1,391 rushing yards last season at Auburn is more than Detroit ran for all last season, so expect the second-round pick to get a serious look during training camp.
“I’m just trying to help anyway I can,” Johnson told the Free Press.
