Auburn in the NFL: Cam Newton looking good, Kerryon Johnson battling for No. 1
By Rob Maxwell
RB Corey Grant, Jacksonville
In three seasons with Jacksonville, former Auburn running back Corey Grant has seen his touches increase from 16 to 49 to 52 last season and his yards from scrimmage from from 15 to 199 to 289. Last season, he also returned 19 kickoffs for a 24.9 yards per return average.
The Jaguars acknowledge that they’d like to get the ball in his hands more because of his speed and playmaking ability. But it’s difficult to find carries after Jacksonville drafted Leonard Fournette last season and also have T.J. Yeldon in the backfield.
But Grant continues plugging away and creating enough “wow” plays to make him an enticing option for the Jaguars offense.
The Times-Union noted in its practice report that Grant has done a good job in passing situations.
"RB Corey Grant was fast out of the backfield and did a good job reading blocks."
Whether or not Grant finds more touches in 2018 remains to be seen, but he’s carved out a nice role with the Jaguars and they are expected to be a contender in the AFC again this season.
