Auburn in the NFL: Cam Newton looking good, Kerryon Johnson battling for No. 1

Here’s a snapshot at how several other former Auburn football players are performing early in training camp:
- Montravius Adams was limited to seven games his rookie season with Green Bay, but early indications are that the second-year player from Auburn could be a key piece to the Packers defense. “He’s more comfortable with what we’re asking him to do,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said.
- The Indianapolis Colts are preparing rookie offensive lineman Braden Smith for more work when the season begins. The second-round pick played right guard in spring drills and the Colts worked him some at right tackle in training camp. “Obviously, we put a lot of stock into Braden and just getting him prepared to be ready for any position he could play. It’s just the more you can do,” Colts OC Nick Sirianni told reporters.
- After improving his numbers from his rookie season to 27 receptions for 357 yards in Year 2, Cleveland WR Ricardo Louis will miss the entire season after having surgery for a neck injury, according to the team’s web site.
- Former Auburn defensive back Jonathan Jones is listed on New England’s PUP list (physically unable to perform). He suffered a season-ending ankle injury last year.
