Dameyune Craig

Dameyune Craig saw minimal playing time in 1994 and 1995 before stepping into the starting role as a junior. Fans loved him and couldn’t wait to see what he could do on the field. He was fun to watch.

When thinking of Craig, most people think of him as a dual-threat quarterback, but that really wasn’t the case. Yes, he was elusive and a fantastic athlete, but he totaled just 429 rushing yards in four seasons on 270 attempts (1.9 yards per carry) with 19 touchdown runs. In 1997, he recorded 96 rushing attempts for zero yards (and four TDs).

Here’s a look at his progression in yards per game passing, completions-attempts, completion percentage, TD passes and interceptions:

1996 (11 games): 2,296, 169-310 (54.5), 16, 10
1997 (12): 3,277, 216-403 (53.6), 18, 13

Prior to Stidham’s 2017 season, Craig was the only quarterback in Auburn football history to throw for at least 3,000 yards. He did it by attempting more passes than any quarterback in Auburn history (he held the record for completions until Stidham broke that last season).
