Depth chart update

With just more than one week until the Sept. 1 opener against Washington, we know most the spots on the Auburn depth chart, at least among the starters.

But not everything.

The way the media projects doesn’t always line up with what the coaches are seeing at practice and on film.

Gus Malzahn told reporters that an official depth chart will be released Tuesday. There are spots that, at least according to Malzahn, are undecided. The big ones are:

  • Buck: Nick Coe, T.D. Moultry and Big Kat Bryant are in the mix here. We know that all three players are talented and all three will play Sept. 1. Coe appears to be the favorite, but that could vary depending on which player is performing best on the field.
  • Punter: Australian product Arryn Siposs was expected to arrive on campus and immediately step into the starting role. But incumbent Aidan Marshall has gotten stronger and has competed well this fall. The fact that there is a healthy competition at the position is a good thing after the way Auburn has struggled punting since Steven Clark left.
  • Offensive line: We think we know the starters. From left to right: Prince Tega Wanogho, Marquel Harrell, Kaleb Kim, Mike Horton and Jack Driscoll. Again, that could change with performance, but if the season started tonight, that looks like the five J.B. Grimes will put on the field first.
