Number of offensive plays

The stat: 81

The Auburn offense totaled 81 plays — 45 rushing attempts and 36 passes — in the win against Washington.

You know how many times the Tigers reached 81 plays in a game last season?

Once.

That came against UCF in the Peach Bowl when Auburn fell behind and had to pass the ball a lot. Jarrett Stidham threw 43 passes that game.

What it means: Let’s get back to the 81 from last Saturday.

I never got the feel that Auburn really was pushing tempo. Yes, at times it wanted to move fast, but it didn’t have the same urgency as in the past.

One of the big pieces to this stat is that Auburn put together four drives with at least 10 plays (11, 12, 10, 10) and each one produced points. Three field goals and the game-winning touchdown (15 total points) came out of those possessions.

When Auburn can sustain drives like that, that’s when the offense really clicks.
