Auburn football: No R-E-S-P-E-C-T is no problem for Tigers
By Tyler Doyle
The Auburn football team’s tough Week 1 matchup against an AP Top 25 team is over and the Tigers are 1-0. It was a great win and fans should be excited for the new season.
You probably expected to hear and read more this week about Auburn and how it can be a real threat in the SEC and nationally?
Well, tough luck.
Auburn has not been getting much love from the media compared to so many other teams. Don’t fret though. That’s when Auburn is at its deadliest.
Normally, I hate those fans who are always yelling: “Why doesn’t my team get more attention? The media hates my team and doesn’t want to see us succeed!”
But this time, I’m going to hold my nose and join those fans for a moment. This whole week, I’ve been scouring the internet and radio waves looking to see what people have to say about Auburn. I can hardly find anything compared to everyone else.
You can find loads of articles and videos of Alabama, Nick Saban and Tua Tagovailoa. You’re more likely to find articles that would downplay what Auburn accomplished last week, like this article that claims Auburn not running the ball better could ruin the season. Last year, Washington ranked 5th in the nation against the run. It’s not the end of the world Auburn couldn’t run the ball as well as it wanted against that defense with an inexperienced offensive line and running back stable.
As if that wasn’t enough, there was this:
Frankly, if you take out two scoring drives of many games, you have a new “better team.” But life doesn’t work that way, Nicole.
However, none of this bothers me. How often have you seen Auburn get so much preseason hype and recognition only for us to be severely disappointed?
Last year, Auburn started to gain a lot of recognition from pundits based on how well it was playing and we got way too hyped during the season. Then the LSU game happened. The media started to portray us as dead men walking. No way we were going to win out the rest of the season, including games against Georgia and Alabama, right?
Well, we saw how that turned out. Now, they’re saying the same thing: The schedule is way too hard. They can’t do it.
Well, that’s when Auburn is at its deadliest, when you ignore us.
