Auburn report card: Defense doing ‘A’ work, but offense not so much

Each week it’s the same mission for the Auburn football team: win games and get better every time it takes the field.

Well, the Tigers won Saturday, beating Southern Miss, 24-13, and some things did get better.

The defense was fantastic and all sorts of players made big plays from linebackers Deshaun Davis and Darrell Williams to defensive backs Noah Igbinoghene and Jordyn Peters to defensive linemen Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson.

Meanwhile, the offense sputtered for a third consecutive week.

Jarrett Stidham threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns, but Southern Miss had him on the run often Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium and the Tigers were placed into too many third-and-long situations.
