Special teams: B
There were no big Ryan Davis returns. Noah Igbinoghene didn’t return a single kickoff because Southern Miss kicked short and away from him.
Arryn Siposs was a weapon in the punt game. He buried the ball at the Southern Miss 3-yard line twice. He averaged 44.1 yards on eight punts. That’s too many punts, but the offensive struggles are well-documented.
Auburn did have one big special teams play. Southern Miss botched a punt attempt and Jordyn Peters recovered a fumble at the USM 33. But the offense moved backward and punted it back to the Golden Eagles.
Anders Carlson continues having so-so season. He had a 53-yard field goal attempt partially blocked, but he converted from 23 yards to put Auburn ahead 24-13. It’s difficult to fault him for the misses this season since most of them have come from 50 or more yards.
