Bottom line: B-

Remember, the object of the game is to win and Auburn did just that.

We wrote after the loss to LSU that Auburn should start piling on some style points. But it’s clear this team isn’t going to beat many teams and look pretty in the process. No, this is a defense-first team that is going to grind out victories with opportunistic plays on defense and special teams.

The defense was fantastic Saturday (and it feels like it would be a slap in its face to give anything lower than a B- here). The offense had a few good plays, but they were too few and far between. Auburn’s fortunate in that the game at Starkville — by no means a guaranteed win — doesn’t look like the obstacle it once was when the Bulldogs were thought to be a team that could content in the SEC West. But Auburn can’t just show up and win that game or any game.

If Auburn can learn from its 24-13 win Saturday and get better, great.

But like Gus said, that sounds like a “broken record” and we have to see it to believe it.
