Gus Malzahn finally named true freshman Bo Nix as Auburn’s starting quarterback for the 2019-2020 season and the Bo Nix era begins now.

He’s the son of former Auburn quarterback and longtime high school/college football coach Patrick Nix. He was Alabama’s 2018 Player of the Year and he was offered by 18 schools but only had his sights set on Auburn. What more could an Auburn fan want out of their quarterback than Bo Nix?

If you feel apprehensive because he’s a true freshman that’s understandable, but Bo Nix isn’t like other true freshmen. Nix entered Auburn rated the nation’s top dual threat quarterback recruit. He’s been highly praised for his quick reflexes and intuition in the pocket and his athleticism is tricky to opposing defenses. His ability to throw the ball put up 6,667 total passing yards in his last two years as quarterback for Pinson Valley and his leadership led the school to back-to-back state championships.

Nix’s abilities in the pocket will be the difference maker for this season’s football team. Last year we saw Stidham struggle to maintain composure in the pocket when the line broke down, but Nix (who is not from Texas by the way) has the ability to scramble and keep play alive in those situations. Anyone who is still has flashbacks to last year’s line can rest a little easier knowing that Nix has great potential to help them out.

Auburn football: Hey, its time we have serious discussions about this offense

I feel confident about Bo Nix going forward. He came to Auburn knowing he would partake in a quarterback competition and he practiced against the best defense in the country. In summer practice and scrimmages against Kevin Steele’s proven defense Nix led multiple scoring drives and proved himself as Auburn’s QB1.

His play sells itself and we all know how talented he is, but the most poignant thing about Nix is his love for Auburn. Its the same love for Auburn I felt growing up as a kid, although my goal wasn’t to become Auburn’s quarterback. That was Bo Nix’s goal. Patrick Nix passed his love for Auburn onto his son like my dad did to me and Bo Nix is going to play his heart out for the orange and blue.

He’s been waiting his entire life for this moment and it’s his. The Bo Nix era begins now.
