Auburn Tigers: Embracing Much Needed Football Bye Week
Hello, are you looking ahead to the rest of a fun-filled Auburn fall? Have you muted the word “Florida” on Twitter? You’re among friends.
We don’t have to talk about it, yet. Auburn football looks ahead this weekend to a much appreciated bye week, so before we discuss the bad news we would like to prolong the inevitable for as long as possible by pretending like it never happened.
For now.
Here is what’s happening around the world of Auburn.
Did you know as of right now at 7:22 PM CST on October 7, 2019 that Auburn basketball is 29 days away? Men’s basketball faces off against Georgia Southern in Auburn Arena on November 5th. The Tigers return off the heels of an amazing Final Four run and will boast one of the most interesting lineups in college basketball. Bruce Pearl will have five seniors and eight newcomers. Among the returning seniors is Danjel Purifoy who Bruce Pearl said is primed and ready for a breakout season. I can’t wait.
Chuma Okeke Declares, Next Season Uncertainty Mounts
Auburn had huge success in the NFL this weekend. Last season former Auburn WR Duke Williams played in the Canadian Football League, yesterday he caught the game winning touchdown for the Bills versus the Titans. The game winning touchdown was his first NFL career touchdown reception. Williams’ tenure at Auburn was cut short in 2015 after failure to meet Coach Malzahn’s expectations. I’m so happy to see “DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE” thriving.
Former Auburn WR and NFL rookie Darius Slayton also caught his first NFL career touchdown pass for the Giants this weekend. The Giants lost 28-10 to the Vikings, but not before Slayton proved to everyone what kind of tremendous talent he is. Slayton was drafted by the Giants late in the fifth round. A steal.
Former Auburn RB Peyton Barber scored his third touchdown of the season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday to help put the Bucs within one touchdown of the Saints. Barber is one of my favorite Auburn runningbacks because of his resiliency on and off the field. Barber has always been very outspoken about his struggle with ADHD and dyslexia. Barber graduated with a degree in interdisciplinary studies in May after fulfilling a promise he made to his mother and himself.
Last but not least, the only thing even remotely Florida related that we will discuss tonight is Auburn’s beautiful swag surf in The Swamp. I can’t wait to bring that swag surf back to Jordan Hare when November rolls back around. First, we will thoroughly enjoy this glorious bye week.
