Arguably the top prospect on Auburn’s board, McKinstry is a five-star cornerback prospect out of Pinson Valley high school in Pinson, Alabama. If that school sounds familiar, it’s because McKinstry was a high school teammate of current Auburn quarterback Bo Nix.

While his relationship with Nix likely helps Auburn’s chances, the Tigers will have to battle with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and LSU for the elite corner.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, McKinstry is the top prospect in the state of Alabama, the country’s second-best cornerback prospect and the 22nd-ranked recruit in the nation.

Also a talented basketball player, McKinstry has talked about being a dual-sport athlete at the collegiate level and Auburn’s strong basketball program under Bruce Pearl certainly helps in that case.

Three-star athlete Tar’Varish Dawson could play cornerback at Auburn and the Tigers signed four-star JUCO transfer Marco Domio in the 2020 class but McKinstry would have a good chance to start right away on The Plains.
