Just because the Tarheels threw the ball over 30 times per game and had one of the best passing attacks in the ACC doesn’t mean they didn’t run the ball effectively. In fact, UNC had one of the better running back duos in the country last year as they nearly produced two 1,000 yard rushers.

Senior Michael Carter was the team’s leading rusher last season and the third-team All-ACC selection should continue to be a valuable weapon for Mack Brown’s offense.

Carter ranked fifth in the ACC last year with 1,003 rushing yards and the 5-foot-10, 200-pound back also added three touchdowns on the ground and two more as a receiver.

Carter also served as the team’s kick returner last season where he put up 24.5 yards per return.

The second half of the Tarheels RB duo is Javonte Williams. The rising junior comes in at 5-foot-10 and 215 pounds and is coming off a season where he rushed for 933 yards and five touchdowns.

Both Williams and Carter gained over five yards per carry last season and compared to Auburn’s stable of backs, should come into this game as the more experienced group.
