UNC ranked fourth in the ACC in scoring defense last season giving up 23.7 points per contest. Fortunately for the Tigers, while the Tarheels bring back the majority of their offensive talent, the defense is facing much more turnover.

Starting with the defensive line, the team lost a pair of studs in defensive end Jason Strowbridge (third-team All-ACC) and defensive tackle Aaron Crawford (50 tackles and nine TFLs in 2019).

In order to replace those two, North Carolina will likely turn to RS freshman Kristian Varner and either Xavier Gill or Jahlil Taylor.

Lastly, former JUCO transfer and rising junior Raymond Vohasek recorded 15 tackles and five TFLs in 12 games last season and could develop into a major impact player in 2020.
