Auburn football: Fantasy football impact for former Tigers
After a strong rookie season in 2018 despite limited carries, Johnson was one of the most popular candidates for a breakout 2019 season. Expected to be a top-10 fantasy running back last season, Johnson struggled.
Not only did a knee injury hold the former second-round pick to just eight games in 2019 but Johnson didn’t quite look like himself when he was on the field. Last season, Johnson carried the ball 113 times for 403 yards and three touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 137 yards an additional TD.
Seeing Johnson’s yards per carry drop from 5.4 as a rookie to 3.6 last season is discouraging and season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons will certainly hurt his fantasy stock.
Additionally, the Lions drafted UGA running back D’Andre Swift in the second round of the 2020 draft which will likely cut into Johnson’s overall potential.
Health is obviously a big concern but if Johnson can stay healthy, he presents an excellent later round pick who has RB1 potential. Use Johnson’s reduced stock to take a low-risk chance that could pay off big time.
