Auburn football: The 5 best JUCO transfers in program history
In the same recruiting class as Artis-Payne, the Tigers also signed the nation’s No. 27 JUCO prospect. Originally recruited to Georgia to play defensive back, Nick Marshall was kicked off the team for a violation of team rules.
That violation of team rules worked out in Auburn’s favor as, after a season at Garden City Community College, Marshall would become one of the best quarterbacks in Auburn history.
In two seasons with the Tigers, Marshall showcased a rocket arm and world-class athleticism while leading the Tigers to their improbable trip to the BCS National Championship in 2014.
A true dual-threat quarterback, Marshall recorded 57 total touchdowns (34 passing and 23 rushing) during his two-year Auburn career while also being one of the most exciting and clutch players in program history.
A big part of Auburn’s turnaround season in 2013, Marshall will be remembered by Auburn fans for years to come. After Auburn, the former quarterback switched back to being a defensive back and after two seasons in the NFL, Marshall has been playing in the Canadian Football League.
