The Golden Eagles just don’t run the ball all too often. It’s just not their game. Last season, the team ranked 12th in the C-USA in rushing attempts per game (33.4) and 13th in rushing yards per game (117.5.)

Southern Miss employed the duo of De’Michael Harris and Kevin Perkins to lead the rushing attack but neither back surpassed 550 rushing yards or five touchdowns.

Additionally, Harris has now graduated which leaves Perkins as the team’s leading returning rusher. At 6-foot and 220 pounds, Perkins does posses solid size at the position and the redshirt senior did put up an impressive 5.3 yards per carry.

However, while Perkins is the leading rusher, junior Trivenskey Mosley is expected to be the starter for the team. Mosley rushed for 494 yards as a true freshman in 2018 but a leg injury that he suffered at the beginning of last season ended his season prematurely.

While the Golden Eagles do have two experienced options at running back, neither should give a much-more-talented  Auburn front seven much trouble. Especially considering the team’s focus on the passing game.
