Auburn football: Ranking every five-star recruit in program history
The highest-rated offensive lineman recruit in team history, Christian Westerman was ranked as the 10th overall player in the class of 2011 and the top player in the state of Arizona.
Westerman chose Auburn over teams like Texas and Arizona State and with the Tigers coming off their first national championship in over half a century, it made sense. The 6-foot-5, 288-pound tackle was supposed to be the anchor on the O-line for years to come.
Instead, Westerman’s Auburn career lasted just two seasons, one of which was his redshirt season. As a redshirt freshman, Westerman played in only three games before being sidelined by an ankle injury.
After the 2012 season, Westerman decided to transfer to Arizona State where he found much more success. Westerman was named to the Second Team All-Pac-12 in 2015 at left guard and eventually heard his name called in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Westerman played three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and is now a free agent. But despite his success after Auburn, Westerman barely made an impact with the Tigers.
