Auburn football: Ranking every five-star recruit in program history
With Auburn’s long history of producing extremely productive college running backs, there was no doubt in the minds of many that Roc Thomas would be next in line when he signed with the Tigers in 2014.
A 5-foot-11, 193-pound back out of Oxford, Alabama, Thomas was Mr. Alabama Football in 2013 and was the 23rd overall recruit in the class of 2014. Thomas chose the Tigers over the likes of Alabama, LSU and Clemson and was expected to be the featured back sooner than later.
However, that simply never happened as Thomas would be stuck behind Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant as a freshman and Peyton Barber, Jovon Robinson and Kerryon Johnson as a sophomore.
After tallying just 475 rushing yards and three rushing TDs in two years at Auburn, Thomas left the program seeking more playing time. While he definitely showed flashes while with the Tigers, Thomas was a part of a deep Auburn backfield.
Thomas would attend FCS powerhouse Jacksonville State where he would record 1,309 yards from scrimmage and 13 TDs as a senior in 2017. After going undrafted in 2017, Thomas was signed by the Minnesota Vikings.
Thomas would play one season with Minnesota and one with the Jacksonville Jaguars before moving to the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League where he plays now.
