Auburn football: Tigers looking to the future with 2023 QB prospect.
Auburn is already chasing one of the best sophomore quarterback recruits in the nation.
The Auburn Tigers should have rising sophomore Bo Nix under center for at least two more seasons. After that, the Tigers are bringing in 2020 four-star recruit Dematrius Davis.
Davis is one of the top dual-threat QB prospects in the nation and by the time Nix leaves, the Houston native could be next in line to start for the Tigers.
However, what about after that? Yes, that is at least three years into the future but Gus Malzahn and his staff are proving that it’s never too early to be looking towards the future.
Despite the fact that he just finished his freshman season Auburn had apparently seen enough to offer the 6-foot-2, 180-pound quarterback.
The rising sophomore out of Tennessee announced on Twitter Sunday that the Tigers offered him a scholarship — Ragland’s first SEC offer.
After starting his high school career at Briarcrest, Ragland has transferred to White Station high school in Memphis.
When looking at quarterback prospects this young, their development is key and anything can happen between now and the end of his senior year. With that said, Ragland is already highly regarded when looking at the top recruits of 2023 class.
According to collegefootballtoday.org, Ragland is a top 100 recruit in the class of 2023 and the No. 1 sophomore QB in the state of Tennessee.
While other major programs such as LSU, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Texas A&M have expressed interest in Ragland, the sophomore’s only previous offer was from FCS Campbell University. Auburn being the first FBS team to offer Ragland could help in the future.
Even though it’s a few years into the future, and the Tigers have yet to gain any commitments in the 2023 class, Ragland isn’t the only sophomore QB that Auburn has offered. So far, the Tigers have also offered scholarships to Raheim Jeter, Malachi Nelson, Dylan Lonergan, and Jaden Rashada.
Auburn offering young quarterback prospects is nothing new though. The Tigers offered Nix prior to his sophomore season and did the same for former Auburn QB Joey Gatewood.
