Auburn football: Potent rushing attack and strong O-line should make Kentucky a tough out
While the Wildcats definitely struggled to pass the ball on offense last season, they did well to stop the pass on defense. At least statistically speaking. Kentucky allowed the fewest passing yards per game (167.8) in the SEC last season and only allowed nine total passing touchdowns which was also the best mark in the conference.
With that being said, I wouldn’t exactly say Kentucky has one of the elite defensive backfields in the SEC.
At the same time, RS junior safety Yusuf Corker had a breakout 2019 season and led the team with 74 total tackles. He could very well see his name on an All-SEC list by the end of the season.
Former JUCO transfer Brandin Echols may only be 175 pounds but he could very well be the team’s best cornerback in 2020. Echols recorded 54 tackles and 2.5 TFLs in his first season as a part of BBN and another year of experience could do wonders for him.
Safety Jordan Griffin is now gone after starting 11 games last season and leading the team with two interceptions. In his place, the Wildcats could use Lexington native Davonte Robinson who missed the entire 2019 season with a quad injury or senior JUCO transfer Quandre Mosely who started two games last year.
Despite their success defending the pass last year, with Auburn’s returning talent at WR and the development of Nix, I think the Tigers should be able to create problems for the UK secondary.
