The Wildcats aren’t a bad team. Far from it. The team won a respectable eight games last season and return a lot of their talent from last year. So, if UK has legitimate talent, why is their best player…the punter?
Well, that’s less of a knock on the other star players on Kentucky’s roster and more of a shoutout to Max Duffy who very well might be the best punter in the entire country.
The 27-year-old Australian (and former Australian Rules Football star) is the reigning Ray Guy Award winner — the award given to the nation’s top punter.
Duffy was a unanimous All-American selection in 2019 and had 49 punts for 2,358 yards. Duffy’s 48.1 yards per punt was the top mark in the entire nation and nearly half of all his punts (24 of 59) were pinned inside the 20-yard line.
Duffy has one more year of eligibility remaining and he should have no problem being among the best punters in the nation. He may not get the praise that players that score touchdowns get but if you’re the best player at your position, how can you not be on this list?
Honorable mentions: Jamar Watson and Asim Rose
