Auburn football: Ranking every starting quarterback since Cam Newton
Following a player like Cam Newton is always going to be difficult. That was the reality that Barrett Trotter faced. After serving as the team’s backup QB during the national championship run, Trotter was named the starter to begin the 2011 season.
Trotter was really nothing special and was what you’d call a game manager. The junior signal-caller completed 55.1 percent of his passes for 1,184 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Trotter also helped the Tigers to an 8-5 season, which considering what happened the next season, was pretty impressive.
Trotter would’ve likely been the starter for the Tigers in 2012 but the Mobile, Alabama native would forgo his senior season and would coach high school football at his alma mater.
Trotter has gone one to hold assistant coaching positions at Arkansas State, North Carolina and the St. Louis Rams. Trotter has served as an offensive analyst for Auburn since 2018.
