Former Auburn grad transfer enters his name in the transfer portal

It seems as though Auburn wide receiver Zach Farrar can’t find a permanent home. Farrar, who was entering his redshirt senior season in 2020 and his second season with the Tigers, announced that he is putting his name in the NCAA transfer portal per AL.com’s Matt Zenitz.

Wherever Farrar’s next destination is, it’ll be the veteran’s fifth school. The Southlake, Texas native originally signed with Oklahoma out of high school as a three-star prospect. After a redshirt year in Norman, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver decided to take the JUCO route.

After one season at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Farrar committed to FCS Youngstown State. During his 2018 year with the Penguins, Farrar recorded 20 catches for 307 yards and one touchdown.

This was enough for him to garner interest from Auburn where he moved to next as a grad transfer. Despite elite size for the position, Farrar was unable to earn significant playing time for the Tigers last year.

Farrar primarily appeared in blowout games but did play well in the few reps he did get. The grad transfer wideout only caught three balls for 41 yards last season but two of those three catches were touchdowns.

Both of Farrar’s TDs last season came from backup quarterback Cord Sanberg during the fourth quarter of a 52-0 blowout victory over Samford.

While Farrar did have the opportunity for an increased workload in 2020, it’s unlikely the former three-star prospect would’ve made a major impact. The Tigers bring back the majority of their wide receiver talent from last season which includes possible first-round pick Seth Williams and junior Anthony Schwartz, who is arguably the fastest player in college football.

Auburn also signed four receiver prospects in their 2020 recruiting class — three of which are four-star recruits. All of this combined would’ve likely meant another year of Farrar sitting deep on the depth chart whereas another school could offer him the opportunity to make a bigger impact.

Farrar now becomes the third wide receiver to transfer from the program this offseason joining Marquis McClain and Jashawn Sheffield.
