Auburn football: Constructing an all-time Auburn offense
Starters: Ed King, Zeke Smith
Backups: Keith Uecker, Braden Smith
If you’re going to run the ball down people’s throats then you’re going to have some beasts in the trenches creating holes for you to run through. That should be no problem for the all-time Auburn offense.
Ed King only played three seasons at Auburn but he was an All-American selection in two of them (1989 and 1990). Like Ken Rice, Zeke Smith played in an era where offensive linemen weren’t nearly as big as they are now.
Regardless, Smith is one of the best players in Auburn history and along with helping to bring the Tigers to a national championship in ’57, Smith was also a consensus All-American and won the Outland Trophy in 1958 which is given to the nation’s best interior lineman.
Braden Smith is a much more recent selection. At 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, Smith was an imposing OG who used his size to bully opponents. Smith made 41 consecutive starts for the Tigers from 2014 to 2017 and was garnered All-SEC recognition in three of his four seasons and All-American recognition in two of them.
Lastly, Uecker was a four-year starter at Auburn and was an All-SEC selection and team captain in 1981. Now a college football coach, Uecker would fit in well on this strong Auburn O-Line.
