While there aren’t very many, a few Auburn players have officially changed positions. I will also be including certain players who were expected to play other positions or played different positions at previous schools.

Caylin Newton: From quarterback to wide receiver

The younger brother of Auburn legend Cam Newton, Caylin played quarterback at Howard University for the past three seasons. However, with Auburn’s talent at the position, Newton has a better chance to make an impact at receiver.

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 201 pounds, Newton is incredibly athletic so the position change makes sense and could give the Tigers a unique and versatile offensive weapon this season.

Matthew Hill: From wide receiver to defensive back.

Hill came to The Plains as a highly touted receiver out of Brookwood high school in Georgia. And after redshirting his first season, it looked like Hill was ready to make a big leap and even grabbed five passes for 128 yards and two TDs in Auburn’s 2019 spring game.

However, Hill has officially made the move to DB and with solid size (6-foot-1, 190) and great athleticism, Hill can absolutely succeed at his new position similar to what current Miami Dolphins CB Noah Igbinoghene did during his Auburn career.
