Auburn football: Rematch with Tennessee gives the Tigers a perfect chance for revenge
The Vols were lucky to have one of the best kickers in the SEC last season as rising senior Brent Cimaglia was a second-team All-SEC selection after hitting 23 of his 27 field goal attempts.
His 23 field goals made last season ranked in the top 10 nationally and with Cimaglia back in 2020, the kicking game should be no problem for the Vols.
On the other hand, the punting situation is less of a sure thing. The team switched between Paxton Brooks (30 punts) and walk-on Joe Doyle (21 punts).
Doyle transferred which will likely leave the job for Brooks but the junior was inconsistent and will need to improve for 2020.
As I mentioned in a previous slide, the Vols have a dangerous return option with USC transfer Velus Jones Jr. Last season, wideout Marquez Callaway was an All-SEC selection as a punt returner but he’s gone now.
As for Jones Jr., the grad transfer averaged 24.0 yards per kick return in three seasons as a Trojan and he received All-Pac-12 honors by at least one publication in all three seasons.
