Auburn football: 5 Wildcats to watch in Week 1
As much as I’d love to put former Auburn quarterback Joey Gatewood on here, the former four-star recruit is still waiting to hear from the NCAA regarding his eligibility for the 2020 season. At this point, I’m not sure Gatewood will get the waiver he needs to play in 2020 but either way, senior QB Terry Wilson Jr. will probably be the team’s starter.
Wilson helped lead the Wildcats to 10 wins in 2018 while completing 67.2 percent of his passes for 1,889 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 547 yards and four additional TDs.
The former JUCO product was in line for a breakout campaign this past season but he, unfortunately, suffered a torn patellar tendon in the Wildcats’ second game.
Passing the ball won’t be Kentucky’s main priority in 2020, especially with the loss of do-it-all offensive weapon Lynn Bowden Jr. However, Wilson is one of the best dual-threats in the SEC and as a senior, I’m expecting a pretty big season out of him if he recovers well from his previous injury.
With the loss of Derrick Brown, Marlon Davidson and Nick Coe for Auburn, a dual-threat QB like Wilson should definitely keep the Auburn front seven on their toes.
