Texas

The Texas Longhorns don’t necessarily impress us any more than Auburn football has this season. While their thrilling victory over Oklahoma State in overtime in Week 9 of this unpredictable and unforgettable college football season was among its highlights, the Longhorns have suffered losses that are lesser than the Tigers have felt…not to mention they themselves weren’t exactly the most impressive even in victories against much less talented opponents.

UT-Austin’s loss to the Oklahoma Sooners wasn’t the kind of loss that ends all hope of a National Championship, but a loss to the TCU Horn Frogs does. Giving up 53 points isn’t exactly something to be too proud of, even if it was to a Sooners squad that sits just outside the top 10 in the rankings. At least the Georgia Bulldogs have only lost to ranked Florida and Alabama teams. Oklahoma lost to Kansas State…

Anyway, Andrew Miller of Hook ‘Em Headlines also considered it a surprise to be ranked that high when the rankings were released:

"The bump that Texas football got in the initial release of the College Football Playoff Rankings compared to the other major polls was a surprise."

Whenever the beat itself is surprised at the rankings, that means their team probably was placed too high. With both the UNC and Texas beats believing so (Marshall’s fanbase isn’t going to give up an inch, nor should they) it is clear that the CFB Playoff Committee got the rankings wrong.

Where we think they went wrong was a ranking too low for Auburn football.
