What Auburn football fans think about a potential Lane Kiffin hire
Several outlets have raised the possibility of Lane Kiffin being a possible candidate for the head coaching job of Auburn football. Here’s what you guys said in response.
Yesterday, the War Eagle discussed the possibility of Lane Kiffin making his way to the Auburn football program as the lead voice in the Plains moving forward. Currently heading up that role for the Ole Miss Rebels–of whom the Tigers were able to defeat 35-28 earlier this season–Kiffin has long been known to bounce around conferences for the ideal position.
Could that be with Auburn? Many of you seem to think so:
The majority of responses to our question seemed to indicate widespread interest in Kiffin from Tigers fans. Then again, not everyone was on board:
Bret makes a good point here. Kiffin is accomplished, but he tends to bolt for greener pastures the minute they arise. When he first took the head coaching role for the Florida Atlantic Owls, he was able to turn the program around and win the Conference-USA Championship in 2017, and he followed that up with a 10-0 regular season and a second title two years later.
It didn’t take too long before Kiffin was on to bigger and better things, though. Last year, he took the Ole Miss role and has done a good job improving the team’s offense to a respectable level; they had scored less than 20 points on four different occasions before Kiffin became the head honcho this season.
Now, he is being linked to Auburn football. While that is undoubtedly a better opportunity than the Ole Miss role, the War Eagle isn’t in denial enough to say this is the best head coaching job out there.
What happens if Kiffin isn’t pleased with his first season in the Plains? The fact that there is a worry of him being a flight risk after paying $21 million to have Gus Malzahn not coach is both frustrating and damning.
Given the fact that there is an advisory search firm in place, Kiffin will not likely be the guy they end up with. Perhaps he can find a role as the offensive coordinator for a new coaching staff, but the better thing to do for his career would be to continue building Ole Miss back up and showing some stability.
