Dell McGee should make the move west from the Peach State to the Plains and join Bryan Harsin’s Auburn football coaching staff.

With sweeping changes expected across the Auburn football coaching staff–now that new head coach Bryan Harsin is officially the new voice of the Tigers’ locker-room–plenty of eyes are on being a part of the new era on the Plains.

Given the obvious connection to Auburn through his days donning Tigers blue and orange, Dell McGee should be someone that has a mutual interest with Harsin and the AU brain trust.

McGee is currently the running backs coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, and their Peach Bowl performance in the ground game was not exactly one that makes the partnership with UGA a peachy one.

The Dogs combined for 36 rushing yards, and not a single rusher averaged more than 3.5 yards-per-carry. A win is a win, and heads aren’t going to roll after overcoming a difficult (and previously undefeated) AAC championship-winning Cincinnati Bearcats squad.

But McGee isn’t maximizing what his career could be with the talent currently in the Georgia backfield. The Bulldogs were able to bring on four-star recruit Lovasea Carroll out of IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL), but that may not be enough to entice McGee to stay with UGA when his home his calling.

Bryan Harsin was a Boise State lifer (outside of his first year as a head coach for Arkansas State and a two-year stint working for Texas), having played for the Broncos before coaching BSU to four Mountain West championships in his six years at the program. He of all people should be able to convince McGee to finally coach at the school that propelled him to the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick in the 1996 draft.

Fly War Eagle hopes that he does decide to return to the 334 to help develop the likes of Cartavius “Tank” Bigsby and Shaun Shivers (who hopefully don’t decide to transfer).

Here’s to hoping our friend Jake “Jboy” Crain is correct about momentum for McGee to come home where he belongs:

War Eagle, Mr. McGee. We hope to see you back soon.
