As Bryan Harsin continues to fill out his coaching staff, one name Auburn football fans may hear is former Tigers DC Will Muschamp…and there seem to be mixed opinions on a potential hire.

The new era of Auburn football is underway, with Bryan Harsin igniting a fire in every Tiger that got to witness the excitement he displayed when posting a picture of the one and only Jordan-Hare Stadium to signify it:

As someone that has got to experience the Plains firsthand the last several weeks, this was a nice rush of serotonin, especially being snowed in up North. There are few better views than the most epic video board in college football–one that Harsin hopes will be playing highlights of a revamped offense that stagnated under Gus Malzahn in 2020.

What will the defense look like, though?

Marcus Freeman was a name that has been floated:

"As has been all but confirmed, Kevin Steele will not be returning to the Auburn football program in 2021 under Harsin. That should perk the ears of all Tigers. But who can replace Steele as the defensive coordinator?According to podcast host and Auburn personality (and friend of Fly War Eagle) Jake “Jboy” Crain, Marcus Freeman could be an option."

Freeman is a hot name around college football, which could make it difficult for an Auburn team who had the 48th ranked recruiting class to be the top option for the in-demand commodity.

But what about Will Muschamp?

After turning down the University of Texas defensive coordinator position, is it possible Muschamp could make his way back to Auburn?

Many of you would rather walk 500 miles (and walk 500 more) than welcome Will back to the 334:

Muschamp’s wandering eyes–which remind Fly War Eagle of former preferred head coaching option Lane Kiffin’s–seem to be the biggest drawbacks for Auburn football fans.

Understandable.

That said, not everyone hates the idea of the fired South Carolina coach’s return…although excitement isn’t a word I’d associate with the other side of the responses coin (outside of the man dubbed the Auburn “Twitiot”):

Muschamp can help the Tigers’ recruiting woes, but having a defensive coordinator who will always have eyes on a bigger role could be a recipe for disaster.
