Auburn football’s coaching vacancies are being filled at a rapid pace, with Mike Bobo and Will Friend joining Bryan Harsin’s Auburn football staff.
After completing the hire of Derek Mason to the Auburn football program, new head coach Bryan Harsin just added two more members to his coaching staff.
Mike Bobo and Will Friend are making their way to the Plains:
"The report says that offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, along with offensive line coach Will Friend, are expected to accept the same roles at Auburn under their first-year coach Bryan Harsin, who took the job on The Plains after seven years at Boise State. That would end a one-year run for Bobo with the Gamecocks and a run that was, officially, just about two weeks for Friend at South Carolina."
I can sit here and tee off on South Carolina’s abysmal 2020 season, but remember that the Gamecocks actually own bragging rights over Auburn football…who happened to be one of their two losses on the year. Bo Nix’s three interceptions were the catalyst that game, one in which they had several big plays but ultimately gave away the game to the SEC’s USC (The Trojans are the true USC FYI).
Those mistakes could be nixed (I had to) with a revamped offensive system that isn’t so predictable. Too often, two runs were followed up by a screen pass on third down, and there’s only so much Nix can do to overcome defenders that knew what schemes the offense had in place.
We’re not asking for an option offense in the vein of Army or Navy football, nor are we looking for Pete Carroll’s West Coast offense.
What Fly War Eagle hopes Bobo can bring to the team is an air of unpredictability. With Nix improving in many facets this past season, and Cord Sandberg being replaced by Dematrius Davis as his backup to potentially light a fire under Nix, there’s every reason to believe things are looking up in 2021.
