After initially declaring for the NFL Draft, Christian Tutt has now entered the transfer portal. It is clear no matter what his decision is, he no longer wants to play for Auburn football.
With three seasons under his belt, defensive back Christian Tutt has made it clear he is ready to move on from Auburn football.
Although originally declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft, Tutt has now entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, making himself available to conversations with prospective schools looking to poach one of the high-impact players on the Tigers’ secondary.
According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Tutt’s original plan was to follow his NFL dream. He already hired an agent and began training for the draft but has now decided to spend another year on the collegiate playing field.
While Tutt only played nine games this season, his experience was vital to Auburn’s secondary as their only returning starter. In 2020, the former four-star recruit racked up a total of 31 tackles– 18 of which were solo tackles.
Christian Tutt now becomes just another name on the list of those leaving the Auburn football program since the firing of former head coach Gus Malzahn.
Another of those names? Wesley McGriff, who spent the last two seasons coaching defensive backs for Auburn Football.
Just last week, Dan Mullens announced that Wesley McGriff would be joining his coaching staff at the University of Florida. Although it is not yet clear what McGriff’s role will be, could Tutt follow his former DB coach to Gainesville?
With the Gators potentially losing several members of their secondary during the off-season (per Demetrius Harvey at All Gators), and with Wesley McGriff’s hiring onto Mullens’ staff, it’s possible that Christian Tutt will be looking for a familiar face in his search for a new college. The same concept could land Gunner Stockton on the Plains due to his connection to new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
Regardless of where Tutt ends up, it seems very clear that his time at Auburn is coming to an end. Fly War Eagle wishes Tutt the best in his future endeavors.
