Jaguars’ new head coach Urban Meyer has never beaten Auburn football
Urban Meyer seems to have it made as the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. A nice feature of the gig? Not having to play Auburn football, who he has never beaten.
Urban Meyer seems to have hit the jackpot in landing the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching role. He has the number one draft pick–which will more than likely be 2019 National Championship-winning quarterback Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson–and he doesn’t have to play Auburn football.
Coach Meyer has quite the resume– 3x National Champion, 7x conference champion spread out over three NCAA conferences, and a career coaching record of 187-32– but one thing he cannot claim is to have beaten Auburn.
As head coach at the University of Florida, Meyer faced off against the Tigers twice, in back to back years in 2006 and 2007…and lost both times.
Despite their #2 ranking in 2006, the Gators were upset by the Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium. This was the only blemish on the Florida football team’s resume that year as they went on to win the BCS National Championship, but they still didn’t beat Auburn.
In 2007, unranked Auburn football beat a #4 Florida football team on their home turf in Gainesville. The game was won by a field goal and marked the second time Meyer would lose to the Tigers.
It was also Tim Tebow’s first career loss:
So while Jags fans celebrate a new head coach who seems ready to do great things in Jacksonville, Auburn fans can take pride in knowing the head coach of this NFL football team never celebrated a victory against Auburn football.
We wish Head Coach Meyer good luck in Jacksonville and congratulate him on escaping a meeting with the Auburn Tigers on his agenda for however long his NFL stint lasts.
