Despite the fact that he was no longer a fit for the Auburn football head coaching position, the Auburn Family still stands behind former HC Gus Malzahn and is gunning for him to get the job at Tennessee.

The firing of former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn was bittersweet to much of the Auburn Family. Gus is a good guy, the players loved him, and he truly is a great coach (who has had a few off-years).

But it’s time for Gus to be great elsewhere. Auburn fans have an idea of what that elsewhere could be given recent events today:

The University of Tennessee cleaned house in the football program today–according to a report by SportsCenter–firing HC Jeremy Pruitt and several other members of the coaching staff for potential recruiting violations.

Auburn fans were quick to promote Gus Malzahn as the best option for the Vols’ new head coach.

With the Vols’ potentially facing big trouble from the NCAA, they need a coach like Gus–a coach that the players will love and a coach that can build stability into their program.

In his six years at Auburn, Malzahn secured a winning record for the Tigers each season and coached the team to a bowl game every year. He’s proven himself to be a consistently good coach and was even a great one on occasion (Iron Bowl wins, 2014 National Championship appearance).

Rocky Top could be a great fit for Auburn football’s former HC, and it’s possible that we could soon see Gus joining Big Kat Bryant in Knoxville.

Whatever happens with the Volunteers coaching situation, we wish Gus the very best moving forward.
