As of today, the 2021 Auburn baseball schedule has been released, breaking down what the season will look like for the Tigers.
Kicking off the year as #23 in the pre-season polls, the Auburn baseball team will begin SEC play on March 19 at Ole Miss, per the SEC:
Play will begin February 19 leading up to the first SEC series on March 19. In addition to Ole Miss, the Tigers will see Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri on the road.
Auburn hosts Kentucky in their SEC home opener March 26-28, and will also face Mississippi State, Florida, LSU, and Texas A&M on the Plains.
This is no easy schedule that the Tigers have been saddled with–they’ll be meeting up with five preseason top-12 opponents in SEC play alone. The Southeastern Conference leads in the D1Baseball preseason poll with nine total teams represented.
According to Jason Caldwell, the full Auburn baseball schedule should be released later in the week, and the Tigers are expected to participate in the Round Rock Classic. Auburn will join Baylor, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M in Round Rock, Texas on Dell Diamond.
After the 2020 season was cut short due to COVID-19 related issues, the Tigers are no doubt looking forward to getting back on the field. Not to mention, many of them will be familiar faces due to the shortening of the 2020 MLB Draft. Instead of 40 rounds, the 2020 Draft was shortened to just five in the era of COVID-19, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for Auburn baseball.
Key pitchers Cody Greenhill and Jack Owen will return to Plainsman Park, and the Tigers will retain their entire outfield. And–despite the loss of first-round draft pick Tanner Burns–junior Richard Fitts is projected to fill the gap as the Friday night pitcher.
Auburn baseball looks forward to a challenging and exciting season and hopes to end up back in Omaha by the end of it.
