Did Auburn football’s Twitter take a shot at Tennessee?

Auburn football may have taken a very sly and subtle shot at the Tennessee football program on its Twitter account.

Team social media accounts are among the hidden gems of the psychological cesspool that social media can be. The Auburn football team Twitter account is usually great for a quote from the Auburn Creed matched with a beautifully done graphic of a member of the team’s personnel.

Today, though, they took a very subdued, yet subtle, shot at the Tennessee football program:

If you look closely, the team’s video board displays the Auburn logo next to the Volunteers’ notorious “T”. Shout out to Twitter user and diehard Tigers fan Pablo Esobarner for pointing it out:

Given what the program is currently dealing with, it is apropos to own the fact that the last time those two logos were next to each other on the Jordan-Hare Stadium scoreboard, Auburn football took a 31-17 spread-covering victory over the Volunteers.

With Kevin Steele–the man arguably (and at least partially) responsible for Gus Malzhan’s Plains ouster–now the interim coach, it is fair game to take shots at someone so reviled by the fanbase.

In fact, maybe this wasn’t a shot at all.

Perhaps the prayers of many Auburn fans, Fly War Eagle, and even SEC analyst Chirs Doering could be answered and Gus Malzahn could be the man getting the call to stand atop the Rocky Top pecking order.

How poetic would it be for Malzahn to appear in Knoxville and dismiss Steele after seeing him land a head coaching gig elsewhere?

FWE advocates for coaching peace and minimal pettiness…besides having a little fun on social media to lift the spirits of Tigers fans struggling with the realities of life in 2021.
