After heavy interest in Auburn University, Penn State, and Florida State University, former Auburn football commit Eric Wilson announced this morning he will be playing for the Nittany Lions in 2021:

The grad transfer out of Harvard will be the fifth transfer to join Penn State since the end of the 2020 season. Before Harvard’s football season was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, Wilson was second-team All-Ivy league in 2019.

The Ivy League offensive lineman tweeted his intention to commit to Auburn football back in November but quickly took a step back when rumors of a coaching switch up hit the Plains. The Auburn tweet has since been deleted.

According to AL.com, Eric Wilson’s decision was based heavily on the coaching staff, which is why he didn’t yet sign on to the Auburn football program after the firing of former HC Gus Malzahn.

"“Really, in this one year, because I’m only a grad transfer for one year, it was the coaches,” Wilson said. “It’s not like I’m committing to being in a program for four years. I’m committing to these relationships with these people.”"

As a grad transfer in his final year of eligibility, Wilson is looking forward to the NFL and for the football program that will maximize his chances of being drafted.

Auburn football currently has 11 players with a signed letter of intent according to 247sports, and a hard commit from three-star recruit Tar’varish Dawson. Although he has not officially signed, Dawson seems to be all in for Auburn.

And, as Auburn football HC Bryan Harsin said, “Recruiting never ends.”
