Former Auburn basketball player Desean Murray took to the Team War Tampa Twitter page on February 1st to announce that the team will be applying for TBT, The Basketball Tournament, in summer 2021.
🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 @desean_murray has some important info for all of our fans. We will be applying for TBT 2021‼️

We will be targeting some more Auburn guys as well 👀 Be on the look out‼️
See you this summer @thetournament pic.twitter.com/TdvFU0VV96
The Team WarTampa account noted in a later tweet that they’re planning to rebrand the team for the 2021 game, and asked fans to drop suggestions for new team names in the comments.
Obviously, Tiger fans were extremely excited at the chance to catch some of their favorite Auburn basketball alumni reunited on the hardwood, especially those players of recent years. The anticipation for the announcement of the first player was building:

But the best news yet came in that very announcement in the form of the first player on the 2021 War Tampa Team Roster: Danjel Purifoy.
Our first new player announcement! Welcome Danjel Purifoy to our roster!

We are excited to add him to a roster where he should fit right into as a key piece in this summer’s TBT (@thetournament )‼️
Have plenty more exciting announcements coming soon 😏

Danjel Purifoy was a member of Auburn basketball’s legendary Final Four team in the 2018-19 season. He started the game against Virginia and shot 41% from the floor. He made 217 field goals throughout his career, 123 of which were three-pointers.
And right when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Team WarTampa dropped a bombshell:
👀 Hint for you.

Key player from that Final Four Team😏 https://t.co/rDvWiciyEC
Not one, but TWO members of the Final Four team?
Some names being thrown around include Samir Doughty, Austin Wiley, and Anfernee McLemore. But, just saying “key player” doesn’t really narrow it down much–as one Twitter user pointed out, most of the athletes on the Final Four team were key players:
And herein lies the reason why that Final Four team was so special. EVERYONE was a key piece.

Jared and Bryce shot the lights out, Samir locked down on defense, Chuma and Danjel was consistently scoring, Malik, Anfernee, and Horace guarded the rims, Wiley got buckets underneath. https://t.co/VfALO1OKjr
For now, we’ll all wait with bated breath and repeatedly refresh the Team WarTampa Twitter page until they give us the next name. War Eagle and happy refreshing!
