On most nights in the career of Patrick Mahomes, it would be an honor to be compared to him. In fact, any time a college quarterback’s game can be likened to one of the game’s great signal-callers is a good time for said school. Auburn football fans did such a thing during last night’s Super Bowl LV between the Kansas City Chiefs and the winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mahomes didn’t have his greatest game, but he still amassed 305 total yards through the air and with his feet. It was a frustrating game to watch for those pulling for KC, and it certainly gave fans memories of Bo Nix’s 2020 campaign.
The thing is, the offensive line was the true target of these tweets:
As fans were reacting to the action at Raymond James Stadium, quite a few hypothetical (and virtual) hand-shake agreements were made between Nix and Mahomes in their mutual struggles shared from offensive lines that put their collective health in danger a few too many times for comfort:
The Chiefs were missing former #1 overall pick, Eric Fisher, after he tragically tore his Achilles against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game. Auburn football dealt with plenty of roster shuffling due to injuries, and COVID-19 related absences as well.
That said, both quarterbacks would likely want to see a bit more time to operate in the pocket in the future. Good thing the Tigers and Chiefs both have time to shuffle the deck until the fall.
Auburn football has already added 3-star OL Colby Smith to the fold. The Chiefs lack cap space this offseason, though, so it’s unclear how they’ll address their protection issues.
With the NCAA FBS and NFL seasons concluded, eyes shift to NCAA FCS spring football, with a Tarleton State and McNeese State at 6 P.M. central time this Saturday.
The thirst for football must be quenched somehow! War Eagle!
