Auburn football extends offer to South Carolina WR target
While Auburn football’s recruiting class of 2021 is not yet finished, new head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff are not hesitating to look ahead to 2022. On February 10, Antonio Williams took to Twitter to announce his offer from Auburn University.
The South Carolina native plays wide receiver at Dutch Fork High School and has already received around 20 offers from schools including Duke, Georgia, South Carolina, and Arizona State in addition to Auburn. He is an unranked recruit…but that hasn’t stopped the offers from rolling in.
Williams has already caught the attention of the Gamecocks’ new coaching staff, who re-offered the high school WR after the staffing switch-up. The State reports that Williams liked the family environment of South Carolina, so wouldn’t he be a great fit for the Auburn family on the Plains?
Auburn football does have the advantage of coaches with South Carolina ties on the offensive staff in Mike Bobo–who Williams tagged in his Twitter post–and Will Friend.
In his 2020 high school football season at Dutch Fork, he scored eight touchdowns on top of 51 catches for 837 yards. He is also a special teams asset with two punt returns for touchdowns and an average of 28.2 yards per kick return.
Williams has also received an invitation to the 2022 Under Armour All-American Game, which will be organized for the 14th year. Though the 2021 game was canceled, there is still hope for a 2022 game next January.
The Under Armour All-American Game is a prestigious honor, and many of the greatest athletes in collegiate and professional football have participated in the game, traditionally played in Orlando, FL at Camping World Stadium.
The UA All-American Game website provides some insight on the successful players that got their start as high school seniors on this team:
"NFL Pro Bowler A.J. Green competed in the inaugural game, while No. 1 overall NFL Draft selections like Jadeveon Clowney (2011), Jameis Winston (2012), Myles Garrett (2014) and Kyler Murray (2015) are among the players that participated in later years.Nearly 250 alumni of the Under Armour All-America Game have been selected in the NFL Draft, including 64 first-round draft picks and 23 NFL Pro Bowlers."
Antonio Williams has ties to his home state university, but we’re holding out hope that the WR decides to become part of the best family college football has to offer–The Auburn family.
