Things have been going awry for the Tennessee Volunteers ever since the firing of Jeremy Pruitt, but the Vols’ loss could be the Tigers’ gain if Dylan Brooks chooses to join the Auburn football program.
Brooks was recruited by many top programs last year, including Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and Auburn, but eventually chose to commit to the Tennessee Volunteers. A top prospect in the state of Alabama, Brooks told AL.com why he chose Rocky Top:
"“Most of (Tennessee’s) staff is from Alabama,” Brooks told AL.com for a story earlier this month. “All of them are like good dudes. I might could play there a little earlier than some other places. I also like Knoxville a lot and have some family there.”"
But when McDonald’s bags were discovered and Coach Pruitt and his cohorts were sent packing, Brooks wanted out of his National Letter of Intent. According to Keith Niebuhr for Auburn Undercover, Brooks was originally told he could not play for an SEC school:
"Thursday, Tennessee told Brooks he would be released from his NLI but not his Southeastern Conference Agreement. That meant he could not attend an SEC school. But Friday, the school told Brooks he would not have any restrictions."
Brooks, hailing from Roanoke, AL, grew up as an Auburn fan and expressed significant interest in the Tigers’ program during the recruitment process. He is an Auburn legacy, with family members that played for the Tigers and attended the school.
Now that he is officially released from his National Letter of Intent and free to go to any school he chooses, it’s very possible that Dylan Brooks will end up at Auburn. He would significantly boost the 2021 recruiting class, which is currently sitting at No. 10 in the SEC.
We at Fly War Eagle hope to see an Auburn fan turn into an Auburn football player very soon.
