Auburn baseball has officially started their season, the A-Day game date has been announced, and the Auburn football team is still hard at work in the weight room.
In other words, the Plains is poppin’.
The Auburn football Twitter page shared a video last week of head Coach Bryan Harsin training with the guys early in the morning, just one example of the new staff’s work to change the culture of the program.
Harsin is leading his team by example, and Auburn fans are loving it.
As they do every Saturday, the Auburn Strength Twitter page announced this week’s Iron Men of the Week–an honor earned by one offensive player and one defensive player for their hard work during the week. The fourth week of Iron Men honors goes to Smoke Monday and Elijah Canion.
Smoke Monday is a rising senior in the safety position and Elijah Canion will be a sophomore wide receiver come fall.
Smoke Monday, the defensive honoree, played all 11 games on Auburn’s schedule in the 2020 season and recorded 73 total tackles with four tackles for loss and two interceptions. He was second-team All-SEC in 2020, and thankfully he chose to return to the Plains for his senior season.
Elijah Canion, the 3-star wide receiver recruited out of Hollywood, FL, is the offensive honoree this week. As a freshman, Canion played in only two games, against LSU and the bowl game against Northwestern. Although he saw little action versus LSU, Canion had three receptions–the longest for 57 yards–and one touchdown in the Citrus Bowl.
With Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft, it’s quite likely we’ll see Elijah Canion being targeted more in 2021.
