Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff have long-been hard at work on the recruiting trail, looking ahead as well as trying to complete the class of 2021. The Tigers have been following leads in Wisconsin for ’22, offering their second prospect out of the Badger state just yesterday.
Billy Schrauth, a four-star offensive tackle out of Fond du Lac, WI, becomes a major Tigers target as the number three recruit out of America’s Dairyland. He has received offers from other major Power 5 programs such as Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Oregon.
Auburn’s main competition? Notre Dame and Wisconsin, two schools named in Schrauth’s original top four who he announced back in October. The Tigers offered four-star offensive guard Carson Hinzman–a fellow Wisconsin native–on February 16 and soon followed up with an offer to Schrauth:
Schrauth was named MaxPreps Sophomore of the Year and ranks in ESPN’s Top 300. He was also invited to the 2022 All-American Bowl.
Auburn football’s recruiting class of 2022 currently only has three commits in cornerbacks Jarell Stinson and Brian Dilworth and QB Holden Geriner. They’ve officially offered 26 offensive tackles, per 247 Sports, and it seems this could be a focus position in the 2022 class.
When asked what is important to him when it comes to choosing a school, Schraugh told Fox 11 that he likes to win:
"“I like to win, so I’m hoping to get a national championship wherever I go,” Schrauth said.“But I want a place where I feel comfortable, where my family feels comfortable. Where I know I can succeed and I know I can get a good education.”"
Auburn University could certainly fit Schraugh’s description. Bryan Harsin and his fellow coaches have been striving to change the Auburn football culture and elevate the program back to a place where it can compete for national championships, and Schraugh is seemingly a positive needle-mover. There’s a fruitful potential match here.
