Auburn football’s 2021 recruiting class continues to rise in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings for the upcoming season. Now at #20, after being in the 40’s before National Signing Day, it appears the program has stabilized after a tumultuous coaching turnover revealed internal turmoil in the form of a classic coup d’etat for the head coaching position.
Bryan Harsin appears to have this program on the right track, with the team landing several transfers from Power 5 conferences like the Big Ten and Big 12 from the portal.
The work is not done, though. Recruiting never ends is Coach Harsin’s new motto for the Tigers, after all.
With the offensive line failing to contain the pass rush, Fly War Eagle has decided to take a look at 3 OL targets the coaching staff should pursue from the transfer portal:
Auburn football portal target #1: OG Willie Tyler, Texas
The six-foot-seven, 330-pound Longhorns transfer is garnering plenty of interest from both Power 5 and Group of 5 schools nationwide, with Syracuse and Arkansas State having standing offers for the Racine, Wisconsin native.
After red-shirting for two years with Texas in order to familiarize himself with playing on the offensive line following a high school career pursuing the quarterback and running back, Tyler is a project with potential as enormous as his frame…with the right tutelage.
Given the interest from fellow SEC competitors Florida and Tennessee, it may be only a matter of time before Will Friend looks into adding one of the biggest offensive linemen in the portal.
Auburn football portal target #2: OG Jackson Gregory, Louisville
Jackson Gregory had higher hopes than what his Louisville experience has turned out to be so far in his two years with the Cardinals.
After playing in purely special teams situations for two consecutive seasons, the 6-foot-3, 275-pound OL could find more opportunities on the gridiron on the Plains.
Auburn football portal target #3: OG Hunter Mayginnes, Washington State
The six-foot-five, 308-pound Pac-12 guard has a similar story to Gregory, having been relegated to the backup role on the depth chart for the Cougars of Washington State.
Opportunities should be plentiful in a brand new era for a Tigers team with a tremendous chip on their shoulders following yet another National Championship in Tuscaloosa.
Eyeing players with a similar edge after having a down 2020 could be the key to uniting the locker-room and proving that Auburn is not the Yellowhammer State’s baby brother football program.
